SILENCE CAN BE GOLDEN
COLD AND WIND. TWO THINGS THAT DO NOT MIX WELL WITH LAKE GEORGE AND BASS FISHING.
RECENT TOURNAMENTS IN THE AREA HAVE HAD HUGE WEIGHTS TO SAY THE LEAST. THIS DAY WOULD PROVE A LITTLE TOUGHER THAN THOSE IN RECENT PAST.
I, (AS MOST), HAVE HAD THE USUAL PROBLEMS FINDING A RELABLE TEAM PARTNER THAT WOULD CARRY HIS PART OF ALL THE HARD WORK THAT GOES INTO BEING A “WINNING” TEAM.
I HAD DECIDED THIS SEASON, TO FISH MOST TOURNAMENTS ALONE. THEN, I HAD THE PLEASURE OF MEETING A YOUNG MAN AND DREW HIM AS A NONBOATER ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS WHILE FISHING THE ABA. SOME OF YOU MAY KNOW MARK RUBLE. FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT DON'T, HE IS DEAF / MUTE, MEANING HE CANNOT HEAR OR SPEAK.
I LOVE THIS SPORT WITH ALL MY HEART. IT’S THE THRILL OF COMPETING AGAINST THE FISH AND ALL OF THOSE THAT SHARE MY PASSION FOR THIS GREAT SPORT. BUT THOSE TWO DAYS ON THE WATER WITH MARK MADE ME REMEMBER WHAT THIS IS REALLY ALL ABOUT, FOR ME AT LEAST.
MARK APROACHED ME AND ASK IF HE COULD FISH THE XTREME TEAM SEASON WITH ME. ALTHOUGH I HAD DECIDED TO FISH ALONE, I IMMEDIATELY SAID “YES”!
THE FIRST EVENT WE CANCELLED BECAUSE OF ICE STORMS. THE FOLLOWING WEEKEND, WE FISHED AND MANAGED A RESPECTABLE FOURTH PLACE FINISH.
THIS LAST WEEKEND WASN'T MUCH BETTER WEATHER-WISE. CROSSING LAKE GEORGE IN 35 MPH WINDS OUT OF THE NORTH IS NOT FUN. ADD THIRTY DEGREE TEMPS AND IT WORSENS. WE ARRIVED ON THE WEST SHORELINE LIKE A LOT OF OTHERS, LOOKING FOR SPAWNING AREAS. THE WIND AND COLD HAD MOVED THE FISH AND FOR MOST, THEY COULD NOT BE FOUND.
SO, WE LAID DOWN THE WORM RODS AND STARTED WORKING THE OPEN WATER EDGES WITH SOFT JERK BAITS AND CAUGHT A GREAT BAG WEIGHING 15.05 LBS WINNING THE EVENT! OUR BIG FISH WAS 6.09 LBS AND LUNKER FOR THE TOURNAMENT. THIS DAY WAS ONE OF THE ROUGHEST I CAN REMEMBER FOR A LONG TIME. THE SECOND PLACE TEAM OF SCOTT KING AND JEFF WINKLEMAN HAD A WEIGHT OF 3.85 LBS ON THIS LESS THAN IDEAL DAY.
MY PARTNER, THOUGH UNABLE TO UTTER A WORD , USED BUT A SMILE AND MANY “TWO FOOT STOMPS” ON THE DECK TO SPEAK VOLUMES ON THIS DAY!
IN THIS CASE, “SILENCE” WAS, TRULY, “GOLDEN” !!!
RESULTS.

"DEFIANCE" PAYS OFF...
To heck with this weather! Let's go out and look for fish where they should be, not just where we "want" them to be!
That was the game plan for eventual winners, Andy Litchfield and Dan Tharnish of Sarasota. Look for migrating fish...whether coming or going and we should put together a good limit if we can catch them. Catch them they did! Over 2 limits throughout the day, with the best 5 tipping the scales at 25.18 lbs. Once their initial spot proved too slow for a tournament win, Andy and Dan moved to a new location and started putting fish in the boat. A variety of worms and senko type baits proved to be the combination for the win, with most fish coming in the afternoon.
When asked if the weather played a factor, like it has so often this season, the pair mentioned that the initial ride in their ETEC powered Stratos 201 PRO XL was downright cold, but nothing warms you like being able to cull solid fish!
It was evident that the Istokpoga bass had finally had enough of the poor weather, with many good weights coming to the scales. 21.95 lbs and a 7.78 lb kicker was offered by the team of Charlie Howser and Don Fields, good for 2nd place. The duo of Josh Haggard and Chris Crow had good weight too! They (figuratively) tossed 20.11 lbs on the scales and were rewarded with a 3rd place finish. Buddie McDuffie and Robert Brown had a good showing with 19.56 lbs, to grab the 4th place position. Norman Lee and partner Bob Cody, swung the net under a 9.33 lb Istokpoga lunker and claimed big bass for the event.
In all, 13 of the 31 teams weighing double digits on another one of "those days" we seem to be having, prove that they're going to eat...sooner or later!
See you next time!

SEASON OPENER FIELD PUT IN A "FULL NELSON"...
Lets start at the end on this one...
Those of us that fish competitively either love, or...despise bed fishing. Sometimes, those of us that love it, will despise it at the same time when fish are lost or refuse altogether what we pitch on them. Conversely, those that despise it will waste no time throwing on a fish if the opportunity presents itself. It's those "lost" fish that drive us crazy. And, when they're good fish, like the one lost and then caught (again) by Phil and Justin Nelson, it's easy to see how the "love-hate-love" relationship is perpetuated.
Phil and Justin caught fish all day. Seventeen in all. The seventeen'th fish of the day weighed 6.16 lbs and would eventually secure the win in the season opener for the 2010 XBS Osborne division. Searching the clear water in south Lake Ida, around hydrilla and eel grass mixes, the Nelson's chose an assortment of Zoom Flukes and craws to try and separate some big bass from the bed. That final "cull" of the day gave them 20.66 lbs for the event. But wait! This fish wasn't just the ordinary "big fish on a bed" routine! These guys had the fish on the hook once! A jump later, it was seen returning to it's bed...hook free. No broken line! 20 lb flourocarbon was chosen for the job and it held. Observing that it was really locked on, they worked it for the final 10 minutes of the day and with the help of their Shimano / Allstar combination, eventually got it talked into a boat ride back to the ramp. The pair fired up the Mercury 250 Pro XS and pointed their Ranger Z-21 back to John Prince Park, to see how their catch fared against the rest of the 12 boat field.
Aymon Wilcox, fresh off his FLW Eastern Series debut on the Big O, finished in 2nd place, fishing alone with 13.53 lbs, enhanced by a 5.34 lb kicker. Phil and Justin were safe so far...
The Lake Osborne Director, Jeff Brooks and his partner, Mike Cass brought a 13.51 lb limit to the scales, only 2/100's of a lb behind Aymon...to finish in 3rd for the day and proving that on this day, the "full Nelson" was the right move!

NEVER TOO OLD
Week in and week out, folks young or old, get out for a day on the water and maybe catch a fish or two. But when a couple of those "old folks" sign up to fish a tournament and fish one in far, far less than "typical" Florida weather conditions, some pay attention. Just for extra measure, the "old" team of Mike Bierfreund and John McLeod figured this would be a good time to remind the rest of the field that you're never to old to fool a fish. "Retirement" jokes were flying as the two readied their flipping sticks with their favorite Gitem Bug (on this day...black/blue w/silver flake). As they waited for launch and realizing that the extreme cold water would play into their hands today, it was decided the team would work the waters of Lake Toho, spending most of their tournament time in the thickest cover available in the "idiot" grass.
With nary a bite coming their way after 1:00 pm, the two "geezers" had to make do with the 3 limits they culled through that morning. Slinging 18.33 lbs onto the scales with a tournament best big fish of 7.02 lbs in the bag too, had the younger crowd eating crow so to speak. A new level of respect had been earned today for Mike and John, even if it was all in jest!
The dogfight of the day turned out to be between 2nd, 3rd and 4th place. Vince Strawbridge and Daniel Beckham brought one of only 5 limits to the scales. Their 12.66 lbs was sufficient for a 2nd place finish. Always a threat to win any event on the chain, the team of Will Evans and Darrel Cranor finished the day just 12/100's of a lb behind Vince and Daniel and got 3rd place with 12.54 lbs. A little over a pound behind them was the duo of Robert Crosnoe and Danny Thompson with a limit going 11.11 lbs, good for 4th place.
Hopefully, the weather is on the rebound and limits await many more teams in future events! The Toho division opener for the 2010 XBS boasted 30 teams in ridiculous conditions. That alone speaks volumes.
I want to remind all who read this that a fun and exciting "nearly all-inclusive" tournament is scheduled for the end of March and is highlighted on our home page! There are only 50 teams allowed, so read about it and check your schedule...we'd like to see you there!

...WITH NICK AT THE NET!
When putting together a team to compete in a tournament series, a lot has to be considered. For Chuck Foster of Keystone Heights, that decision was understandibly easier than for some others. That's because Chuck's partner is Nick, his 9 year old son. You see, For years, Chuck's been grooming Nick for an occasion just like the one they both encountered at the inaugural event for the 2010 XBS Astor division. Armed with their favorite bed fishing and blind casting baits (craws and speedworms), the father and son team worked clear water in the Silver Glen area, for bedding and cruising bass. Casting to fish you can't see requires a lot of patience and once caught, the requirement of a good net man is paramount. Lose a big fish from a bed and it's real tough to get a shot at her again any time soon. Nick wasn't about to let that happen on this day. His father Chuck, may have been at the reel, but Nick's ability to follow the direction of his partner / dad was a key element to their success. Chuck and Nick culled through nearly two limits and brought 25.15 lbs of bass to the scales. A quick glance at the competition's bags revealed what both hoped for on this day...a win! A "team" win! The elder Foster was awash with excitement for his son. Chuck knows what it takes to be a competent net man for fish coming to the boat. His choice is Nick...his son...and his partner!
Phil Curry had a partner today too! Not the conventional kind of partner, evidenced by his having to release 2 seperate fish measuring over 22", but the kind of partner that can never "cost" you a tournament win. His partner today? Well, that would be none other than his Power Pole! Using his Costa Del Mar sunglasses, Phil sight fished with confidence, knowing that the boat would stay put, thanks to the Power Pole. His lone "keeper" for the day weighed in at 8.92 lbs, good for 2nd place and big bass! Any of us having used a Power Pole know all too well of their aid in holding a position while on the water. Phil was quick to credit "his partner" on this day, a day when his regular 2nd in the boat was busy pre-fishing for another upcoming event.
Two different "partner" stories...both with successful results! What could make a day better?

ASTOR DATE RESCHEDULED FOR THIS SATURDAY 16TH.
Astor has been rescheduled for this Saturday the 16th. Any questions please call Tom Rewis at 407-341-1366.
There were a few events cancelled this weekend due to the weather conditions. Okeechobee, Astor, Rodman will all be resheduled in the very near future. Please keep checking back with us for the udates as we check the "Master Schedule" to see where we can fit an extra one in somewhere along the way.
Congradulations to Eddie Englehart and Greg Hughes who won the Rousseau division that did fish in these crazy conditions and won with 24.56lbs. Not a bad days catch in frigid conditions.
By the way that is Tom Rewis' (Astor Director) Boat pictured and that is not a two tone carpet that is ICE.

"IN SEARCH OF A LEGEND"
In any championship event, no matter the sport, it pays to have a wealth of information about your opponent to give yourself the winning edge. Whether this opponent takes the form of a person, a fish,or a body of water, the investment of research can surely pay off...
For this most recent Xtreme Bass Fishing event, the 2009 Bass Team Championship...a quick trip down the results pages for the Kissimmee Division out of Camp Mack would surely tell you one thing if nothing else. Tremendous weights have come across the scales by many different teams over the 2009 regular season. This would be anyone's tournament to win...or to lose. With 119 teams converging on the Lake Kissimmee and connecting waters to fight it out for the keys to a new and loaded Legend Alpha 211 Series bass boat powered by the ever impressive Evinrude 250 ETEC outboard motor, finding "your own" water would be of paramount importance. The team of Bobby Wooten and Chad Stewart took it to the bank! A "deposit" of 47.85 lbs over the 2 days of competition gave them what they were after...those keys mentioned earlier! A prize package of over $55,000.00 sat, waiting for them under the shade of the huge oak trees at the beautiful Camp Mack's River Resort. This is a championship prize package to be remembered. With a reasonable amount of research done, I can find no boat/motor/trailer package of this magnitude given away as a championship award by any trail of similar dimension in our state. Add to the package, a Minn Kota 101 Trolling Motor and the accompanying Humminbird Electronics and those guys have won one awesome rig!
Not only did he and his partner Tom Morse, find time to practice and fish the Championship, but Harlan Griggs of Roland Martin's Marine Center, made the whole Legend/Evinrude prize package come together. He didn't just "get the ball rolling", he pushed it off a cliff. And to make the presentation even more special, Cindy Van Horn of Legend Boats, flew in from Arkansas to be a part of the Championship weekend. Ever hear the phrase "Legend has it...?" Well, they certainly do! Thank you Harlan, Cindy and Roland Martin's Marine Center as the 2009 Championship Supporting Dealer! I should note and Cindy would want it known that Kurt Owen made himself available over the duration of the event and not only helped out Harlan and the Xtreme staff, but attended to whatever she needed to have done too. Kurt was considered her "personal assistant" and should be thanked as well.
This year's runner-up team, Fred Rigdon and Gary Cupal did as well as could be done without actually winning the whole affair. Listen to this...the two weighed in 42.45 lbs in the Championship, good enough for a 2nd place finish. They won the 2009 Team of the Year, finishing as the Johns Lake divisional points leaders, beating out 11 other divisional points leaders from around the state. Weighing in a 25.62 lb limit at John's Lake held on to the 3rd big bag of the year too. Fred and Gary also won the "Frequent Fishing Program" for 2009. Teams had to fish a minimum of 12 events to qualify for this tournament within a tournament. Maybe the Championship Boat/Motor package eluded them, but not much else! $5,164.00 cash, an 8' Power Pole and 2 new sticks from Deep South Rods, not to mention free entries into next year's season will surely help soften the blow of not winning it all!
The 3rd place team of Wilton Wilkerson and William Farmer also broke the 40 plus pound barrier over the 2 day fracas with an outstanding catch of 42.32 lbs, a scant 13/100's of a pound behind Fred and Gary. Still, $2,250.00 was a welcome sight when the smoke had cleared. Hats off to these 2!
Imagine coming in on day one, weighing your team's catch (27.09 lbs) and having the lead going in to the final day of competition...all on only 4 fish! Adam Markley and Axel Riley did just that. Over 27 lbs and a fish short of a limit. That's sick! Well, their day 2 didn't go as well as the first, but they still managed an 11th place finish and day one big bass. That 4/5's of a stringer will be talked about for a while!
Other divisions within the Xtreme "umbrella" have anglers coming from great distances to compete and this year's finale would be no different. The team of Dave and Chuck Barber drove down from Georgia to catch a glimpse of Tebow's home town (just kidding) and take part in the Championship. With record heat temps over the weekend, finishing in the top 12, with this field, was almost Tebow-esque! Good going fellas!
No matter how you cut it, when teams like these along with others nearing or eclipsing the 20 lbs a day average...teams like Stanley Hunt and Alan Hopper's great catch of 39.34 lbs, it shows not only the strength and commitment of the field, but also serves to validate the strength of the fishery. Just ask Terry Seagraves, who offered his services onstage for the final day weigh in to introduce anglers and call weights, along with a few interviews highlighting their weekend. Celebrities such as Terry wanting to be a part of events like this help make it even more special for all of us.
All in all, sixteen places were paid for the event with many end of year awards presented as well. Added up, the 2009 Xtreme Bass Team Championship paid out over 200% based on the teams present for the tournament. Yeah...we're bragging.
All results are posted. but we'd like to make special note of some tournament and season accomplishments by the following teams...
*Day one big bass went to Adam Markley and Axel Riley for their 8.37 lb'er.
*2nd big bass on day one awarded to Duane Mimbs and Jeremy Melvin with a 7.78 lb bass.
*Day two big bass was won by the team of Chris Maxwell and Nolan Gaskin. Their fish tipped the scales @ 8.70 lbs.
*Buddy Parslow and Tracy Parker's fish weighing 8.60 lbs got them in the money for 2nd big bass on day 2.
* Big Bass of the Year pot contained $2,760.00 and was broken down into 3 spots...
1st Big Bass and $1,640.00 won by Tom Rewis and Jason Fisher of the Astor Division with their 12.47 lb. monster!
2nd went to Carl Rusk and Boe Jacquard of the Rousseau Division thanks to a 11.83 lb. bite. That "bite was worth $828.00 alone!
3rd big fish this year goes to Tony Bartles and Jeff Sinkler with an Istokpoga Division horse coming in @ 10.17 lbs. The team got $276.00 for that big one!
*Big Bag of the Year had $1640.00 in the pot with the top 3 looking like this...
1st Big Bag and $984.00 going to Eddie Englehart and Greg Hughes for their 28.37 lb bag from the Rousseau Division.
2nd Big Bag and $492.00 was won with a 28.29 lb sack caught by Randall Hutcherson and Ben Todd in the Astor Division.
3rd Big Bag weighed in @ 25.62 lbs, caught in the John's Lake Division. Another cool $164.00 going to the team of Fred Rigdon and Gary Cupal!
Legend Boats, Evinrude Outboards, Power Pole...all helped to make this event possible. With sponsors like these along with Deep South Fishing Rods, Gitem Baits, Minn Kota and Humminbird Electronics, it's easy to see why we can do what we do.
A special thanks to everyone at Camp Mack's River Resort for making this an event to remember. From the moment we rolled in to set up for the event, Bob Eddy and his staff went "above and beyond" to accommodate our and the fishermen's needs.
Thanks again to all!

2009 TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP ANNOUNCED OCTOBER 10TH AND 11TH
The 2009 Xtreme Team Championship has been announced. Due to the current economic situation we have decided to take the Championship to Camp Mack River Resort in Lake Wales. This will be a more central location for most qualifying anglers and will cut down on travel and prefish expenses. A special thanks to Bob Eddie at Camp Mack and to Polk County Sports Marketing to make this happen. The winner of this event will be awarded a new Legend Alpha 211 rigged with a Evinrude 250 HO. We are giving the actual boat away this year as compared to a certificate as we have in the past. The boat is at Roland Martin Marina getting rigged and ready for delivery. A special thanks to Harlan Griggs for all of his assistance in this process. There will be qualifying letters that will go out in the mail with banquet and housing information, along with a pre registration form. All entries will be due a week before the event so we can order the proper amount of food for the banquet. Thank you to all the anglers that have made 2009 an enjoyable season and we look forward to seeing you all at Camp Mack in October

My children were disappointed to see it go to Okeechobee this past weekend to get rigged. This package is valued at $55,000.00. We are very excited about our new relationship with Legend Boats and look forward to the future. It is defintley a step up from the past years prize boats which were only 19 feet. HEAVEN’S ARMY GROWS ONE STRONGER TODAY
Today is a sad day in Florida’s fishing community. Scott Lindstam from Clearwater, Florida passed away today around 5:00pm. Scott lost his war with cancer this afternoon after battling for several years. The above picture is Scott at our Championship in 2007; I thought that would be the last event Scott ever fished. But, as many times before, he rallied and fished with us a couple of times in 2008 but became too weak to finish the season. In early 2009, Scott called me and said it was his time and to let all the guys know he enjoyed the past years fishing with everyone. Then after the untimely death of his brother, he made a huge comeback. Scott was a rock for his family and continued to be an inspiration to all.
Scott was a mainstay at our Lake Tarpon division, whether it was fishing or just coming up to watch the weigh-in to see how his friends did. I have never met a person as brave as he was. He truly touched me as a person and taught me what tenacious really meant. He fought his disease head on and never waivered. If people had a fraction of Scott’s inner strength, the world would be a better place. Scott was also the kind of person that would take his shirt off his own back if you needed it. He would be the first guy to pull a broken down boat in no matter what time it was. If you needed a bait, he would give it to you even if it was his last one.
I know one thing for sure Scott will be missed here on Earth but Heaven just got a little better. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. To all of his fishing friends, throw a couple more casts for him next time you are on the water. That is how he would want it. Goodbye friend, you will be missed dearly.

YOHN & WATKINS TOPS AT 2008 CHAMPIONSHIP
“The fish are scattered. There are some big ones out there, but finding them is the problem,” said Harlan Griggs, manager of Roland Martin’s Marine Center on Lake Okeechobee in Clewiston. “After years of drought, a fire out there and now, a tropical storm that brought the water back up, there are many acres of water that have opened up – places that haven’t been fished in many years. It’s going to be an outstanding year; actually the next few years will be great. But right now the fish are hard to find in any solid numbers.”
The high water scattered chunky fish and forced two-man teams to hunt extra hard for a few bites – generally a few quality bites, as evidenced by the parade of hawgs brought to the scales.
“If you don’t have 16 pounds today, we’re going to beat you,” Chris Maxwell stated flatly as he and partner, Nolan Gaskins idled past Wayne Yohn and JW Watkins at the dock minutes before the final weigh in.
“We threw everything under the sun at the fish when they came up schooling and we could not get bit,” explained Yohn. “They were 50 feet away, chasing hand-sized bream out of the water and we could not catch them. My partner started catching them on that worm, down along the edge of an eel grass bed. That’s how we caught all of our fish.”
Yohn and Watkins ran their two-day total to 38.13 pounds. Then they could not draw an easy breath until Chris Maxwell and Nolan Gaskins weighed-in.
In the end, Team Yohn/Watkins held off the Maxwell/Gaskins duo. With 36.02 pounds Maxwell and Gaskins took the runner-up spot and earned $5,000.
Jason Danes and John Kremer also challenged, but took 3rd place and $2,500 with 34.92 pounds of Okeechobee bass over two days.
Yohn and Watkins won a Ranger 198vx with a 200-hp Evinrude E-Tec. The boat/motor/trailer package is valued at $40,000.
They pieced together back-to-back limits by dragging a Zoom Old Monster worm though “young and tender eel grass,” as Yohn described it. Their fish were staging on the outside edge of grass beds in which they will soon spawn.
Some lunkers are already spawning on the big lake. For instance, John Huls and Troy Oliver caught the big bass of the two-day event from a bed. The fish weighed 8.24 pounds.
Each day’s big bass was worth $1230 and each weighed in excess of eight pounds. Tom Rewis and Jason Fischer had big bass on the first day, at 8.02 pounds.
To finish in the money (17th or better) a team needed 22.79 pounds – good for $550.
Even anglers not ‘in the money’ were still in the money, as a prize drawing awarded 10 teams a $500 check just for fishing with the Xtreme Bass Series.
The Xtreme Bass Championship was a success off the water as well. Friday night’s banquet stuffed anglers’ bellies and wallets. While the teams dined, courtesy of Roland Martin’s Marina, divisional points winners were recognized and presented plaques.
Dan Blanchard and Mark Mynatt of the Istokpoga division were awarded $3,720 for weighing the biggest bass of the year.
Dale Jackson and Kelly Borgh from the Astor/Rodman division had the heaviest sack of the season, good for a $2,840 check.
Vern Kemp won a drawing for a Power Pole XL system, worth $1,500.
The anglers and staff of the Xtreme Bass Series would like to thank Roland Martin’s Marina in Clewiston for hosting such a successful championship event and banquet.
We invite you all to join us for the 2009 tournament season and look forward to seeing you at the ramp.

TEAM MIRACLE GRAPHICS TAKE LAKE TARPON 2ND EVENT
Team Miracle Graphics Royce Booth and Joseph Ernspiker win event #2 on Lake Tarpon today with just over 14lbs worht $990.00. Joesph's wife Donna has a Screen Printing Company that does a fantastic job. They sent me over a sample of thier own brand of fishing shirt done with Xtreme on the left pocket and the quality was terrific. If you have any Screen Printing needs call Donna @ 941-358-3922. The 14 lb stringer was the largest in both events so far this year. Lake Tarpon has been stingy and has fished very difficult. Second place was Brett Kirkendall and Jeff Sherrard with 11.19, third was Steve Preiss and Mike Rogers with 8.43 and fourth was Ron Pendland and Mark Stacy with 8.12. As you can see these weights are uncharacteristic for this time of year. I am expecting much better weights in March. We will see you all at the lake next month. Thanks to all the anglers in the Lake Tarpon division, you won't find a more commited bunch of anglers in the state.

DRISKILL AND HILL "GOTEM WITH GITEM"
Jerry Driskill of Longwood and Buck Hill of Altamonte Springs, captured the Xtreme Bass Series Classic Championship with a two-day, 10-fish total of 36.20 pounds before a huge crowd at the Camp Mack Resort on the Kissimmee River, and took home a fully rigged Ranger 519 VX Tour Edition w/ Evinrude 200 HP E-TEC outboard motor.
The Toho Division team was first to the scales Saturday, and broke the tournament wide open challenging the field of 300 anglers to best their five-fish total of 24.09 pounds, which included two six-pound largemouths to kick-off the big bass pot. The big bass race went to the team of Jerry Probst and Tom Keenan of the Panasoffkee Division with a 7.27-pound largemouth, but at the end of the day Driskill and Hill had posted a nearly seven-pound margin over the runner up team of Charles Crow and Mike Lott from the John’s Lake Division.
“We worked the hydrilla patches in several areas. It was slow at first. By 10:30 a.m. we had only a couple of small keepers, but in the next hour or so, we hooked up on good fish. We were keeping a close eye on the two six pounders, and decided to come in early to prevent a weight penalty.”
Sunday proved to be exciting and a perfect ending to an excellent trail. With the last flight weighing in, and things looking good for Driskill and Hill, Rich Howes and Jay Jastrzemski came to the scales with a limit weighing 23.89 pounds that included a 7.99-pound largemouth. With a first day weight of 11.89 pounds, the Toho Divisional team jumped to the lead with 35.78 pounds.
Driskill and Hill was the final team to weigh in, and would need 11.70 pounds for the win, and as tournament officials watched the anglers check in their fish at the tanks, it looked to be very close. The scales read 12.11 pounds, and the victory was sealed by less than one-half-pound.
“It couldn’t have been better,” said Driskill, today is my birthday and we are going to celebrate. This has been an awesome season for the trail, and I want to thank my sponsor Crane Rental Corp. of Orlando. They are the reason I am standing on the stage right now with my partner Buck. And I want to say something about him. He is fighting a huge bout with cancer, but he hung tough all week, and today he put a six-pounder in the boat.”
Driskill – president of Gitem Baits, Inc., and a sponsor of the Xtreme Bass Series – said he and Hill fished an area in Lake Toho, using his favorite bait, a six and one-half-inch, Junebug-colored Gitem Warlock worm rigged Carolina style. The rig: seven-foot Kistler rod, Shimano Chronarch reel, 15-pound P-Line, 3.0 Owner hook, one-half-ounce Bass Pro tungsten weight w/green bead on a 24-inch leader.
Howes and Jastrzemski found their fish in Kissimmee Lake, and it was all from flipping Junebug-colored Flappin’ Dads.
The big bass on day two went to Bob Delegal and Mike Johnson who netted a 9.13 lber and a cool $1000.00 for their efforts.
The top 25 teams received checks. The total payout of the tournament exceeded $84,000 in cash and merchandise. First big bass on both days paid $1,000 each. Second big bass for both days paid $500 each. The big bass of the year (12.35 pounds) went to Don Schaefer and Lee Frye of the Lake Hernando Division with a payout of $3,440. The team of Rick Danner and Terry Free of the Lake Harris Division took the big bag of the year with 29.08 pounds and earned $2,360. Other awards included 10 randomly drawn checks for $500 each. The final check was not drawn, but awarded by Xtreme president Mike Blocher to Scott Lindstram of the Lake Tarpon Division, who is in a battle for his life with cancer.
“I don’t think anyone in this tournament would mind helping our friend Scott, who has come out here and fished despite his condition,” said the tearful Blocher.
In another random draw Ron Dupree and Chris Anderson of the Okeechobee Division won the Xtreme Match Five promotion. The team drew from a total of 40 sealed envelopes until they had five vouchers for $50,000, $5,000, $1,000 or a sponsor prize package worth $1,000. They won the sponsor package.
From the Trail’s very first divisional qualifier until the final award at the Kissimmee Classic Championship, the season has been one that has spelled success from every facet. Directors did their jobs, and the anglers have responded in kind. Every promise made by the Trail has been kept. It could be called a benchmark in the way a tournament trail should be run; a tournament trail that has grown, and will continue to do so, because of not only perseverance, but from making intelligent decisions, with regard and respect for every member angler. The Xtreme group acknowledges and rewards all of its anglers, and recognizes their hard work, sacrifice and credibility.
The Classic kicked off with a Friday night awards banquet under a huge five-peak tent, sponsored by the Polk County Sports Marketing group, and hosted by the Westgate River Ranch. A breakout ensued with each angler receiving gifts including T-shirts, caps, and tackle packs from Gitem Baits, Kistler Rods, UltraScent, Mitchell EELs, Xtreme Bass Series, Evinrude Outboards and Ranger Boats. Following the barbecue chicken dinner was a raffle for sponsor-donated merchandise.
Each day’s launch went without a hitch, and the weigh-ins as well were smooth to make it enjoyable for both the anglers and the spectators.
A special thanks went to Ross Myers, president of RWM Designs, who supplied gifts and tournament trophies; and to John Johnson, representative for Ranger Boats, who brought one of its latest models, powered by an Evinrude E-Tec for display during the weigh-in ceremonies, and for use as a media boat.
A word from the President
What an amazing event. I just wanted to say a couple of words to all involved with the Xtreme Championship this past weekend. I never would have guessed that one of my proudest times next to my wedding day and the days my two children were born would be a Bass Fishing Tournament. The event went off with out a hitch. It started Friday night at the banquet dinner at Westgate River Ranch. The 5 peak tent was an incredible sight when you pulled into the parking lot. Polk County Sports Marketing really did it up right. The entire staff at River Ranch made us feel like we were family and provided anything we needed. Both Saturday and Sunday morning were also a pleasure. The line never got backed up at all and the staff at Camp Mack were also awesome. They shuttled the anglers back and forth to the vehicles and never once were the anglers under any pressure. The stagging worked like a dream and it made calling the boat #'s very simple. The entire weekend was full of emotion from the random draws for $5000.00 to the final weight being called. If you were not there it is hard to put into words. You know you did something right when the majority of the field seeks you out to let you know how much they appreciate the things we do. My wife attented the first event ever this weekend. She beat me home so I called her and asked her what she thought. She began to cry and tell me how proud she was of myself and our staff. She was so impressed with the anglers and everyone's attitudes she was almost speechless. She said she now understands all the calls and hours I spend on the phone with the anglers and what it all means.
Xtreme anglers, thank you from the bottom of my heart for a weekend and year I will never forget.

THE 2007 XTREME SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION
Mother Nature Wins. Unfortunately the Winter Haven Chain has experienced low water conditions all year and has not come up enough to have the event out of Cypress Gardens. Both ramps on Lake Shipp are very low and unsafe to use. The canals from lake to lake are also exceptionally low and lower unit unfriendly. Therefore we have to move the event to Camp Mack River Resort on the Kissimmee River. Polk County Sports Marketing will still be co-hosting the event and banquet dinner. We appreciate all the hard work Cypress Gardens had put into the set up for the tournament, it would have been a great venue and it is definitely on our radar in the future when the water levels permit.
Please click on the Important Info image or go to forms link at the top of the page for event information and a downloadable registration form for your convenience. We would like to receive all registrations no later than a week before the event in order for us to make the final food arrangements. The mandatory anglers meeting and banquet dinner times and locations will be finalized sometime this week.
Thank you to all the anglers for your understanding and patience. Please don’t hesitate to call with any questions or comments. We look forward to seeing you on the Championship weekend.

XTREME FISHING 101
That’s right 101. That’s how many boats showed up at the first Xtreme One Man Open. Despite heavy rain and wind gusts up to 40 mph late in the afternoon, anglers from all over the state came to support this event. “The amazing part of this whole thing is not the fact that there were another 20+ boats that were going to show up but would have had to travel from down south and drive through some unsafe conditions, it’s the 101 boats that did come out and compete. I knew we were on to something but this superseded my expectations to say the least. Despite the numerous requests from members and non members I knew we were going to have a good field, but 101 boats in those conditions on our very first event was touching. I can only imagine what’s in store for us in the VERY near future” stated Mike Blocher President of Xtreme Fishing Series.
Chris Novak from Lakeland, FL bested the field of 100 other competitors to walk home with the first place prize of $5,000.00. Chris spent his day on Toho flipping a Gambler Craw in heavy grass to get all 6 of his bites, one being just under 14 inches. Novak said, “I was proud of that weight, I worked my tail off for every one of those bites.” Chris and his father Tom compete in the Xtreme Team divisional events and are defending Kissimmee point champions. Rounding out the top 5 were 2nd place finisher Jimmy Murphy with 17.77 pounds worth $1500.00, 3rd place Don Hinman 17.68 for $1200.00, 4th place was Joe Clements from Advanced Marine with 17.60 that netted him $1000.00, and 5th place with only three fish was Power Pole Pro Staffer Darrell Davis with 17.42 that gave him $700.00 in spending money. Darrell said, “I missed two nice keepers that would have won me this thing.” If you were wondering about the Power Pole and how it works in 30 mph winds, give Darrell a call, he told us it was instrumental in his success for the event. Bobby Miller from Center State Fiberglass sponsored the Big Bass Award which was $500.00. That went to 15th place finisher Ben Fitzgerald. Ben also received a Gitem Baits and Mitchell Eels kit for his efforts. Jerry Driskill president of Gitem Baits was on hand not only to promote his company but also participated. Tony Strollo from Mitchell Eels was also present but donated his time helping with the set up and tear down of the event. There were plenty of samples for the anglers to enjoy along with some Early Times t-shirts for the crowd.
Kissimmee Pro Terry Seagraves came out to not only help with the weigh in and converse with the Xtreme anglers, he was there promoting the Great Outdoor Days. The Kissimmee Great Outdoor Days not only consist of many outdoor activities, but includes the Kissimmee Pro-Am Tournament which Terry is heavily involved with. Anglers can come out and compete against touring professionals and in state rivals for the first place prize of $35,000.00 on the pro side and a cool $10,000.00 on the am side. On Sunday there is a Caner Benefit tournament where the touring pro’s get paired with sponsors for a day of fishing. All proceeds benefit the V-foundation for Cancer Research.
At the start of the event the anglers were given free samples of Catch and Release from Sure-Life Laboratories Inc., that in conjunction with the live release boat helped assure the fish were protected and released alive. There were a total of 179 fish caught with only 2 deceased. Thanks Sure-Life for your support.
Special thanks are in order for the following, the city of Kissimmee who in a short time frame accommodated us for this inaugural event. Second, for Mark Detwiler, owner of Big Toho Marine, who closed his shop early in order for the President of the Florida Polygraph Association to set up. Third, to Billy Jackson and his son, who grabbed a generator from his work van after a tree blew out the transformer that controlled the Park and our generator broke on scene. Fourthly, Kevin Roberts (professional photographer), who shot over 300 photos of the event. The disc will be overnighted and the images will be on the site in the next day or two. Finally the anglers, without them we could not do what we do. From all us here at Xtreme we want to extend our gratitude for your support in making this first time event a huge success. Keep checking back with us on future dates and events and thanks for the helping hands.
Also keep your eyes and ears open, we will be announcing some particulars on the new Xtreme Team Events that will consist of smaller fields and bigger payouts.

Buddie McDuffie and Robert Brown caught 24.36 pounds today with a 8.30lber and a 10.70lber anchoring the sack. McDuffie and Brown were throwing to holes in the hydrilla in about 4 feet of water which proved to be the winning pattern. The 10.70 also was large enough for big fish honors. Wyatt Boyd and Matt Henderson have been on a hot streak, since the start of this season Boyd and Henderson have two second place finishes under their belt in the Kissimmee division... including an April 15th second place finish where a dead fish penalty cost them the win by a tenth of a pound.
They took home the first place check the following week at Xtreme-Toho with 20.59 and big bass which was 7.38. They followed that with a next day win in Accent Marine out of Camp Mack with a 19.35 six fish limit. Good job Wyatt and Matt who thank thier sponsor Center State Fiberglass.

XTREME ANGLERS TAKE THE TOP 2 SPOTS AT GAMBLER...
The tournament was Sunday March 18th out of Camp Mack. A cold front came through on Saturday and temperatures were in the 40’s Sunday morning with a steady 10 - 20 mph wind that made fishing difficult. The first place team, XBS anglers Robby Johnson & John Stahl caught the majority of their fish on the BB Cricket, including the big fish of 10.09. The second place team of Gary Niemi & Dan Agent caught the majority of their fish on Shadow Blue Ugly Otters fished in the Kissimmee River. Third place came on Cane Toads fished in Lake Kissimmee. There was a tie for 4th. With Victor Jason’s team catching their fish on the Super Stud and Trevor Fitzgerald’s team catching all of their fish on the Swim Blade fished around scattered grass in Lake Kissimmee. Quite a variety of baits for the top 5 boats.
